WAF Security Engineer

A healthcare client is looking for a WAF Security Engineer to sit fully remote. This person needs to have deep operational expertise in AKAMI Web Application Firewall to help with troubleshooting of their current WAF Infrastructure. This person should have experience securing web applications, proactively mitigating risks and driving continuous improvement of ESF policies and integrations.
o Akamai WAF Configuration & Policy Management – Deep experience in creating, tuning, and maintaining WAF rulesets, rate controls, and bot protections.
o Web Application Security – Strong understanding of OWASP Top 10, application-layer threats, and how WAF mitigates them.
o Incident Triage & Troubleshooting – Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex WAF issues including false positives, traffic anomalies, integration conflicts and application breakage.
o DNS Architecture & Security – Knowledge of DNS resolution, zone management, and how DNS impacts WAF routing and protection.
o SIEM Integration & Threat Analysis – Experience with Google Chronicle or similar SIEM platforms for ingesting WAF logs, correlating events, and responding to threats.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in security engineering and operations, with a focus on WAF technologies.
• Proven experience managing and troubleshooting Akamai WAF in production environments.
• Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/S), firewall rule sets, and DNS architecture.
• Deep knowledge of web application security, including threat modeling and secure design principles.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructure security.
• Familiarity with SIEM tools, log analysis, and incident response workflows.
• Scripting experience (Python, Bash) for automation and log parsing.
