Job Description
The Interim Controller will play a critical role in stabilizing and strengthening the financial management of the Legendary Waters Resort and Casino. This position focuses on cleaning up existing accounting records, streamlining financial reporting processes, and establishing clear, documented accounting policies and procedures that align with tribal, state, and federal regulations.
1. Accounting Clean-Up & Reconciliation
○ Conduct a comprehensive review of current accounting records, accounts, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
○ Identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and legacy issues in the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
○ Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and ensure that all supporting documentation is organized and up to date.
○ Establish standardized reconciliation procedures and month-end close checklists.
2. Financial Reporting & Compliance
○ Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
○ Develop a structured month-end close calendar and enforce discipline in meeting reporting deadlines.
○ Implement and document improved processes for revenue recognition, expense accruals, and interdepartmental allocations.
○ Ensure compliance with GAAP, tribal financial policies, and applicable gaming regulations (NIGC, Title 31, Tribal Gaming Commission).
○ Support audit readiness by maintaining thorough documentation and audit trails.
3. Policy, Procedure, and Internal Control Development
○ Develop and document comprehensive accounting policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all key finance functions.
○ Review and strengthen internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud or reporting errors.
○ Collaborate with department managers to ensure financial policies are communicated and consistently applied across all operations (casino, hotel, F&B, retail, etc.).
○ Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and transparency.
4. Team Leadership & Knowledge Transfer
○ Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering accuracy, accountability, and professionalism.
○ Cross-train staff on new procedures and reporting tools to ensure sustainability after the interim period.
○ Work collaboratively with HR to identify long-term staffing or skill gaps within the finance department.
5. System & Reporting Enhancement
○ Evaluate current accounting and management information systems; recommend system upgrades or process automation where beneficial.
○ Develop templates, dashboards, and financial reports that improve management’s ability to monitor performance and make data-driven decisions.

Required Skills & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
· Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting leadership role.
· Background in tribal gaming, hospitality, or regulated enterprise accounting strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated success leading financial clean-up, system improvements, and policy documentation projects.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP) and familiarity with gaming and hospitality accounting standards.
• Proven ability to implement internal controls and streamline financial processes.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, Great Plains, or Agilysys) and Microsoft Excel.
High integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and tribal information.
